The Helen Macpherson Thompson Library

Library List of Books

Helen Macpherson Thompson (née Macpherson 1905-1999), for whom the Library is named, was an enthusiastic member of the Clan Macpherson Association and a most generous benefactor of the Clan Museum. She was a qualified librarian and took an active interest in the Library in its early days.

The library is looked after by The Library Committee, whose goal is to provide a reference Library which reflects past, present and future activities of Macphersons around the world. Access is by appointment only at the convenience of the Custodian. Children must be supervised at all times.

Access to the Library is available to:

  • Macphersons and members of Associated Families of the Clan Macpherson
  • Local schools studying clan history
  • Clan Macpherson Association members interested in Genealogy
  • Others, as approved by the Library Committee

We are pleased to announce that a list of the Library contents is now online, with books & other publications available for study in the Museum.

The contents include:

  • History of the Clan system
  • History of Clan Macpherson and Associated Families
  • History of the Region - Badenoch and Strathspey
  • History of Scotland with emphasis on the history of the Highlands
  • Materials useful for Genealogy research
  • Books, both non-fiction and fiction, written by Macpherson authors
  • Books relating to the emigration and immigration of Scots

When planning a trip to the Clan Macpherson Museum and desiring to use the Library, please contact the Custodian in advance with your list of books that you would like to peruse. The books will be ready for you at the time of your visit and space will be provided for your study. The books must not leave the Museum.

We hope that you find the lists helpful in planning your next visit.
